“Real Time” host Bill Maher seemed surprised by his admission that President Donald Trump is now considered “cool.”
“Here’s how bad the Democrats tried: Trump is good now,” Maher said during a panel discussion Friday night.
“He’s not just the most powerful guy in the world and he just pretended to be the richest, he actually kind of is.” [cool] in 78!”
“I mean, rappers like him, athletes are doing-” Maher continued while showing off Trump’s iconic dance.
“I was making fun of him, making fun of two guys at the same time, and now he owns it. And now they’re doing it!”
“I mean, the country people are gay for Trump now!” he added.
Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., responded by noting how Trump had “always been a celebrity,” pointing to his stint as host of “The Apprentice” and his countless film and television appearances.
“He was a joke!” Maher backed off.
ESPN host Stephen A. Smith suggested that Democrats are to blame for making Trump a celebrity, insisting that liberal lists “all loved him until he ran for office.”
“You know what would be good about this country? Should we have the famous president?” Khanna complained.
“I mean, is it all about freshness? If being cool as president means helping people?”
“That horse has left the barn,” Maher replied.
Earlier in the conversation, Maher and Smith railed against Democrats for moving to the left, allowing Trump to be elected to a second term.
“The man was blamed twice. He was convicted of 34 felony charges and the American people still said he’s closer to normal than what we see on the left,” Smith said.
“Exactly,” agreed Maher.
“Why?” Smith continued.
“Because something that’s relevant when you’re talking about the transgender community, for example, you’re talking about issues that belong to less than 1% of the population, the Democratic Party felt like that was a priority more than other issues. “
