British regulators said they could force Google to open its search engine for more competition – raising concerns that its use of artificial intelligence poses increased threats to rivals and media companies alike.
The UK competition and market authority said Tuesday can hit Google with “strategic market status” – a determination that would allow the guard agency to intervene. A final decision is expected until October 13.
The agency said it has “heard concerns” during a situation investigation, including “higher research advertising costs than expected in a more competitive market” and “challenges” that publishers face in providing fair compensation for their work. Tarval
He also signaled that he will examine the potential damage caused by the search products related to Google.
CMA identified some possible changes that can be ordered – including searching of “choice screens” to allow the user to easily access other search engines; Prohibition of Google from “Self-Chief” its own services in search results; and giving publishers more control over the way their contents appear.
“CMA is proposed [strategic market status] The determination will include features of the search based on him, though not the Gemini assistant himself, ”the agency said in a statement.
As the post reported, Google has faced a strong check at the US and outside of its implementation of “AI summaries”-which place summaries generated by him at the top of the search results while burying external links on other sites.
Google is also testing a “fashion he” searching, which responds to user users as a chatbot of it than a traditional search engine.
Google said changes proposed by UK regulations “can have significant implications for businesses and customers” in the country.
“CMA today has reiterated that” strategic market status “does not mean that anti-competitive behavior has happened-this announcement presents clear challenges to the critical areas of our UK business,” said Oliver Bethell, Google Director for Competition.
“We are concerned that the purpose of CMA considerations remains wide and unclear, with a series of interventions taken into account before any evidence is provided.”
The mass from the UK regulators is another headache for Google, which has faced a blow to the US and the European Union for its business practices.
American District Judge Ait Mehta will decide until August if it will break down the Google Internet search empire after deciding last year that the company was a “monopolist”.
Google also lost a special antitrust case aimed at its monopoly on digital advertising technology. US District Judge Leonie Brinkema will consider possible remedies in a trial that begins later this year.
