Anchor of CNBC Joe Kernen said New York City risks becoming a Gotham of “The Dark Knight” trilogy Batman after the shocking victory of Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani in the elementary of the city’s democratic city.
Kernen, speaking at the “Squawk Box” on Wednesday, joked that co-perpetrator Andrew Ross Sorkin should challenge Mamdani in the general election.
“I mean, you have a platform that is similar to his continued, that you said free things,” Kernen said before starting in a pronounced analogy.
“I don’t want to go here but Gotham,” Kernen said.
“Have you seen what Batman is against in Gotham, and what guy running for mayor? That’s what he reminds me. They are taking Wall Streetters and making them walk on the ice in the eastern river and hope – and then they fall.
Kernen remarks reflect the increasing concern of financial and political circles over Mamdani’s platform, which includes rent freezing, increased taxation in rich transport, public transport and city -led grocery stores.
Mamdani’s victory, which was prompted by young and progressive voters, has shocked New York’s political foundation.
Charming newspapers for the Democratic Party like the New York Times and Chicago Tribune lobbied against Mamdani’s candidacy, citing an agenda that critics have said he is unrealistic.
Mamdani’s platform has also raised concerns that it can expel businesses from the city and load taxpayers. His call to raise the minimum wage to $ 30 per hour by 2030 has attracted special criticism from small business groups.
Mamdani has also attracted reactions to his views on Israel and Jewish identity. He has referred to the Israeli campaign in Gaza as “genocide” and said he believes Israel must exist “as a state with equal rights” than as a Jewish state.
The Jewish groups, including the Anti-Shop League and the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, condemned his refusal of not giving up the slogan “Globalize the intifada”, which they say promotes violence against Jews.
The foundation Democrats have distanced themselves, calling Mamdani “very extreme”. Its critics argue that the city lacks infrastructure to implement comprehensive reforms such as public grocery stores, given the long malfunction in agencies like NYCHA.
The post has requested comment from Mamdani.
